Counselling

Counselling and therapy, often used interchangeably, involve working with a professional to address emotional, behavioral, or relational challenges. Therapy (also called psychotherapy) goes deeper, focusing on identifying self-defeating beliefs, negative thinking, and destructive habits. Counseling typically involves short-term guidance, while therapy may be more in-depth, aiming to resolve underlying issues and improve overall well-being.

Counselling and therapy can help by improving self-awareness, clarifying life goals, boosting self-esteem, and resolving issues like stress, anxiety, and relationship difficulties. Additionally, it aids in developing healthy coping mechanisms, improving communication skills, and fostering better relationships.

You might benefit from counselling if you’re feeling overwhelmed by stress, emotions, relationship problems, or major life changes. Counselling can also help if you’re facing challenges in making decisions, feel stuck, or want support in achieving personal or professional goals.

Counselling can help with personal growth, relationship difficulties, anxiety, career decisions, life transitions, and coping with Divorce and separation break -ups and the concerns are not limited to these

Each session is tailored to your needs. In the first session, the focus is on creating a safe space, understanding your concerns, and setting therapy goals. Future sessions will build on these goals and help guide you through self-awareness, emotional regulation, and problem-solving.

The number of Counselling sessions required varies for each individual, depending on their specific needs and goals. During the initial session, the Counsellor will assess your concerns and collaboratively determine an appropriate plan, which may include a recommended frequency for sessions. There is no fixed timeline—you are encouraged to take sessions at a pace that suits your comfort, needs, and personal growth.

Some clients feel online sessions lack the personal touch of in-person counselling. It may also be challenging for counsellors/therapists to observe non-verbal cues fully, and engaging children for the full session duration can sometimes be difficult.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is a key element of the relationship between a client and a counsellor. The counselor provides a written confidentiality agreement, and you can trust that your information will be kept private. Details discussed in sessions will not be shared without your consent, ensuring a safe and confidential environment.

While confidentiality is strictly maintained, there are specific situations where the counsellor is legally obligated to break confidentiality, including:

  • When the counsellor believes the client poses a serious risk of harm to themselves or another person.
